After studying electrical engineering at university, gaining practical professional experience and obtaining his doctorate in engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg,
Dr. Klickow trained as a German Patent Attorney and qualified as a European Patent Attorney. As a patent attorney, he has been advising clients from a wide range of commercial fields on all matters relating to intellectual property rights since 1989. In addition, during his many years as a consultant, he provided significant support to the patent department of a medium-sized packaging machine manufacturer.
In addition to international patent and trademark law, Dr. Klickow is active in the areas of due diligence and patent portfolio analysis and successfully develops patent strategies based on his special market knowledge in various fields.

Master of Science Electrical Engineering
After successfully completing his academic qualification as Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Hamburg in 2014, Mr. Klickow gained practical technical work experience in the fields of semiconductor technology and automotive and industrial electronics in an international environment.
From June 2017 to July 2020, Mr. Klickow successfully completed his training in the field of intellectual property law at the law firm Klickow & Wetzel PartGmbB, at the German Patent and Trademark Office and at the Federal Patent Court.
He was admitted as a German Patent Attorney in September 2020 and registered as an authorized representative before the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in October 2020.
In August 2021, after passing the qualifying examination, Mr. Klickow was entered on the list of professional representatives before the European Patent Office (EPO) and has since been independently advising and representing clients in all proceedings before the EPO.
Mr. Klickow has extensive knowledge in drafting patent and utility model applications, trademark applications and design applications, in conducting the respective official examination procedures up to the grant or registration of the desired property rights, in enforcing property rights and taking action against third-party property rights, for example through oppositions, objections or cancellation proceedings, as well as in drafting and negotiating contracts such as license agreements, coexistence agreements or cooperation agreements.

Dipl.-Ing. (TU) Geotechnics, Mining and Waste Disposal
As a patent attorney at Klickow & Wetzel, Philipp Wetzel advises small and medium-sized companies as well as start-ups, primarily in the fields of mechanical engineering, tunnel construction and civil engineering, mining, recycling, shipbuilding and wind energy. In close cooperation with the development departments and inventors as well as the marketing and legal departments of his clients, he deals with the drafting and prosecution of property right applications such as patents, trademarks and designs, both nationally and internationally. Complex legal disputes such as infringement proceedings, opposition and nullity proceedings are also part of his field of activity. In addition, he advises his clients on the drafting of license and know-how agreements, due diligence procedures, employee invention law and the development of international IP strategies.
Mr. Wetzel completed his studies in geotechnics, mining and waste disposal at the Technical University of Clausthal in October 2000 and subsequently completed a degree in geotechnics from October 2000 to April 2004. He completed his training as a patent attorney in the field of intellectual property. The training took place as a patent attorney trainee at the law firms Cohausz & Florack and Stenger Watzke Ring in Düsseldorf, at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court, as well as at the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court in Munich. At the same time, he studied “Law for Patent Attorneys” at the University of Hagen.
In 2004, he was admitted as a patent attorney and registered as a professional representative before the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the European Patent Office. Since 2023, he has also been an authorized representative at the Unified Patent Court.
Since his admission as a patent attorney, Mr. Wetzel has worked with the law firms Niedmers Jäger Köster and Harmsen Utescher and ran his own law firm from October 2005 to November 2008. From 2008 to 2017, he worked as a patent attorney for the law firm Meissner Bolte in Hamburg. Since December 2017, Mr. Wetzel has been a partner in the law firm Patentanwälte Klickow & Wetzel PartGmbB.
